It was a real pleasure to be invited to work with the Sweden-based developers at Systemic Reaction on this project.
The game had already been announced with an internally produced trailer, so the goal for this video was to communicate one of its core mechanics: a constantly evolving world shaped by an overarching threat level that changes the landscape around the player.
“Get your first teaser of Second Extinction's community-based War Effort, the global meta-game within the dinosaur-shredding three-player co-op first-person shooter that launches into Steam Early Access in September.”
The map sequences came from an early idea to stylise the game’s in-world map UI. They worked as cinematic transitions between scenes while also reinforcing the feeling of repeatedly deploying into the world to manage the growing threat level on the ground.
Shortly afterwards, I produced a second video to support the game’s early access launch. This trailer focused more heavily on the main characters and highlighting their individual abilities and play styles.
The map sequences and weapon models were rendered using Redshift in Cinema 4D, while all other footage was captured directly through Apex Engine, Avalanche’s proprietary game engine.
